This niche membership organisation is looking to recruit a hands-on, confident, highly communicative Financial Controller to oversee the day-to-day transactional operations of the finance department.

Reporting to the Finance Director, the Financial Controller  is responsible for the operation of an effective financial control framework, accounting and reporting across the organisation, effective leadership of the finance team  and ensuring the proper processing of transactions in the finance system(s) in accordance therewith and the fulfilment of statutory reporting, tax and audit requirements in line with applicable legislation and business requirements.



Ensure the adequacy of and adherence to the framework of financial accounting policies, procedures and controls
Manage and develop a team of three  Management Accountants (1 qual, 2 part-quals)
Ensure that all financial transactions are properly recorded and coded in the finance system(s).
Responsible for the maintenance of key financial systems (e.g. user access, chart of accounts and other master accounting data).
Identify and implement opportunities to further automate accounting processes, embed controls and enhance reporting from the Sun ledger system.
Review and revision of policies, procedures and controls as necessary to maintain and improve efficiency, accuracy and effectiveness and to ensure compliance with applicable legislation.
Oversight of the sales invoicing, purchase ordering and expense claim processes.
Liaise with the IT and MET (Membership, Events and Training) teams in respect of sales transactions within the Salesforce CRM system and the reconciliation thereof to the ledger.
Manage the month and year end processes; to include the reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, accruals and prepayments and maintenance of the fixed asset register, as well as understand reasons for any variances to budget and/or forecast.
Work closely with the Business Planning & Analysis team as necessary to support key processes such as month end, the budget & forecast processes and long-term plan modelling.
Review and monitor the organisation’s cash flow forecast and manage the working capital position. Advise senior management on risks to the organisation’s profitability, liquidity, solvency or stability.
Review the monthly payroll as submitted by HR. Ensure prompt and accurate payments are made to staff and HMRC accordingly.
Ensure that all statutory financial reporting, audit and internal audit requirements are met in an accurate and timely manner.
Liaise with external partners such as Auditors and Tax Advisers
Manage the preparation and review of the annual report and accounts.  Co-ordinate with other areas of the business as appropriate for non-financial elements.

Experience Requirements

The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level or equivalent, as well as fully qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA (or equivalent) with a minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience.  Previous experience in a membership or trade organisation or related industry would be advantageous.

You will have demonstrable experience in developing and leading an operational finance team and excellent knowledge of financial systems, processes and controls.
Experience of Sun Systems and Salesforce is desirable and advanced skills in MS Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint are essential. 
A sound, practical grasp of the core operational finance cycles, P2P, O2C and R2R is necessary as is a strong delivery focus with excellent attention to detail.
